International automakers are introducing new electric vehicle (EV) concepts designed for high efficiency, high range, lightweight, and even driverless applications. In addition to general passenger cars, this boom also extends to student EV formula racing. Founded in 2015, the National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) Racing Team has repeatedly competed in Formula SAE. The competition is entirely student-run, from the design and manufacture of components to the testing of the finished car. The students recently unveiled their new TH06 race car, which boasts optimizations in frame, powertrain, chassis and electric power, improving performance and reliability while maintaining a lightweight body.
This August, the NTHU Racing Team will take the new car out of Asia and into Germany and Croatia for the first time. There they will face many established European teams with cutting-edge technology and copious resources. Chroma Germany GmbH will provide logistical support to the team throughout the event. With this modest contribution, we hope to deepen industry-academia collaboration in the international EV field, and give these hidden champions of Taiwan a chance to shine on the global stage!
